The Salvation Army Energy Assistance Services Application

The application will be open briefly today, January 14, from 2-6 pm. The application will be open again from 10 am to 10 pm on Wednesday January 21st.

Assistance is available from other sources. You may call 211 (or visit their website at mi211.org) to find another assistance agency. 

DHHS SER assistance is available up to $600 for electricity or natural gas or $900 for deliverable fuels. (The assistance cap for electricity is $900 for homes with electric heat). You can apply for DHHS assistance online at newMIBridges.michigan.gov.

You may contact your local Salvation Army to complete a paper application. To find a local Salvation Army (or another agency) that provides energy assistance, please call 211 (or click here). 

If you have not applied for assistance from DHHS, they also provide assistance with energy bills for households below 150% FPL. You can apply for DHHS assistance online at newMIBridges.michigan.gov or contact your local DHHS office.


The Salvation Army Energy Assistance Services offers bill payment and energy company affordable payment plan enrollment to low-income households. The program also offers additional services such as tips for reducing your energy bill, saving money, information about community resources and case management services.

The online application is only available in English. If you have someone to help you, please proceed.

If you do not read/speak English well and do not have someone to help, please call 616-929-1640 and tell the person who answers that you need translation and what language. They will connect the call with a professional translator.
